Why We Are Here
The Diabetes Sports and Wellness Foundation has created
a web site and wellness community to provide information and tools
in a supportive structure for diabetics and pre-diabetics who could
benefit from more specific information, exercise and fitness, and
wellness regimens.
In partnership with The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and
Sports, The President’s Challenge, the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services and other stakeholders, the Diabetes and Wellness Foundation
will provide programs and a place for diabetics to monitor activity,
to be recognized for achievements, to exchange advice, to provide
encouragement, and to create a sense of community while pursuing endeavors
that enrich their lives and wellness.
The goal is to give diabetics the tools and the confidence to become
more active and knowledgeable about how to live a more complete life.
Diabetes and Wellness is more than the calculation
of insulin, food intake and activity. It is living everyday in the
best way possible, mentally and physically. This will result in better
health and less complications and allow people living with the disease
to witness the day a cure is found.
Why is there a need for the Diabetes and Wellness Foundation when
there are other organizations raising funds for diabetes?
We
agree that the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the
American Diabetes Association (ADA) are both worthy causes and we
support them just as much as you. The goal of the Diabetes and
Wellness Foundation is to bridge the gap between these organizations
by keeping people with diabetes healthy until the one day a cure is
found.
